The Making of Our Christmas Pieces

Ferko's Fine Jewelry

A Look Behind the Sparkle

When eggnog starts making the rounds and Mariah Carey sings “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in every shop, Christmas is officially around the corner.
But here at Ferko’s, the Christmas feeling kicks in much earlier. It starts when the days get shorter and the workshop lights stay on long enough to witness both holiday optimism and mild end-of-year panic.

And while standing under the mistletoe can be a gamble when you’re surrounded by strangers, Secret Santa is a lottery, and New Year’s plans are always “subject to change,” the one thing that remains constant is what comes out of a Ferko’s box. And that is thoughtfully made, beautifully finished, and meant to last jewelry that brings joy.

So we thought it was time to invite you in and show you what our Christmas season really looks like.

An Idea That Smells Like December And A Little Bit of Cinnamon

Every Christmas collection starts with the same question: What does December actually feel like?
Sometimes it’s candlelight flickering, sometimes it’s fairy lights doing their absolute best after midnight and most of the time it’s someone saying, “Should we open one more bottle?”
We design with those moments in mind and borrow curves from ribbons and wrapping paper. The lines we create are inspired by winter lights, and the silhouettes are made to accompany long dinners, spontaneous photos, and whatever plans come after “just one drink.”
We design pieces that are festive enough to shine and comfortable enough to stay on until the very end of the night.

Where Creativity Meets Precision

Once the direction is set, the craftsmanship begins.

Some designs begin as hand-drawn sketches before transitioning into CAD. Others start directly in CAD when the design calls for sharper lines and architectural precision. We move between techniques depending on the piece, not out of habit, but out of respect for the final result.

Think of it like holiday hosting: Some things are planned to the minute, others are improvised. But nothing is accidental.

Wax, Gold, and Jewelry That Can Handle December

After the design is approved, a wax prototype is created, either carved by hand or printed from CAD.
This is where reality checks happen. We test proportions, comfort, and durability.
Because jewelry needs stamina, especially at Christmas, when it has to survive hugs, coats, dancing, dramatic storytelling, and the occasional overly enthusiastic toast.
Then comes casting. And when the mold opens and raw gold appears, it feels like a gift still wrapped; promising, but not yet revealed.

Setting the Stones, Turning the Lights All the Way Up

Stone setting is where things officially get festive.
Each diamond or gemstone is aligned, secured, and adjusted to make sure it catches the light exactly as it should. Prongs are tightened with intention. Gaps disappear. The surface becomes seamless.
This is the moment the piece comes alive, like a Christmas tree when the lights finally come on.

Polishing: Almost Ready for the Gift Exchange

Once the stones are set, polishing begins, softening every edge, refining every curve, and slowly revealing the gold’s final glow.
The surface becomes smooth, luminous, and ready to be noticed.
This is the moment we start picturing the unwrapping: The brief pause, the smile, and that “I didn’t expect this” reaction that, of course, was absolutely expected.

The Final Check at the Bench

Before leaving the workshop, every piece returns to the bench one last time. The same bench where the story of Ferko’s began.
We check how it feels in the hand, how it reflects light, and whether it still carries that December energy.
Only then does it leave the workshop, headed for dinner tables, party nights, last-minute outfits, and New Year’s kisses.

Bonus Round: Team Self-Assignments

Of course, we couldn’t resist turning the conversation onto ourselves.
One of us claimed Juliet, saying she “also looks good in any lighting.”
Another insisted she’s Natalie because she apologizes while flirting. Someone declared herself a glamorous Karen (less emotional weight, more sparkle). And yes, one fearless soul chose Mia with the hoops, minus the chaos.

By the end, we had each picked a character and a Ferko’s piece to match. Only for research purposes, obviously.

Where Craft Meets Christmas

Christmas jewelry is the piece you wear to dinner and forget to take off. The one that looks just as good at 6 PM as it does at midnight, the one that follows you into the next year without asking for permission.

From the first sketch to the final polish, every Ferko’s Christmas piece is made for that exact moment.

Because trends may reset in January, but good jewelry doesn’t.
